New Playground Safety Signage Requirements

Toledo, Ohio - Thursday, January 12, 2012

In the latest edition of the ASTM F1487-11(American Society for Testing & Materials Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public Use), section 14 Signs or Labels, or Both has been updated and all public playground owners need to review and adhere to these standards.  Age appropriateness and adult supervision is still required but additional warning messages communicating the following are new:

• The removal of helmets, drawstrings, or accessories around the neck.
• Hot play surfaces and/or surfacing, when applicable.
• The hazard of play equipment located over hard surfaces, when applicable.
